DESCRIPTION

Torn rubber shift boots allow fumes and extra noise into the interior. If you have noticed a change for the worse in your Miata it is time to change one or both of the factory boots.

The smaller, lower boot, sits on top of the transmission at the base of the shifter, and the larger under the center console.

Quality Rubber Shift Boot - LARGE!

The original small inner boot on my 2002 was all torn up, allowing heat and noise up from the trans tunnel (and possibly dirt down into the trans turret. Replacing both the small inner boot and this larger top boot drastically reduced the amount of heat on the trans tunnel at my right knee. Do both boots at the same time since you have everything off.

Great OEM replacement I no longer smell transmission fluid my shifter doesn't get super hot any more I'm happy with my purchase

My old boot was torn up and letting hot air through. A new one fixed the problem.

Note: If this boot needs replacing, there are three other things that might need work as well that you should check when you replace your boot.

a) Your small rubber shift boot (3 bolts). Mine was torn up just as bad as my large one.

b) Check to see that the 4 bolts clamping the piece that the small shift boot bolts onto are tight. This is essential; the shifter pivots on this bracket, so a loose bracket will result is sloppy shifter action. Mine were so loose I was able to twist them two turns tighter with only my fingers.

c) If you unbolt the small boot and pull it out the shifter, you should see transmission fluid in the resulting hole. The condition/level of the fluid should be noted. In my NB there was no fluid visible because the fluid had been filled through the fill bolt of the transmission rather than through the top of the shifter. On NA cars the shifter fluid and transmission fluid are independent of one another.

Fit perfectly. Couldn't have asked for anything better, especially for the price. Had the new rubber smell too!
