HEADER INSTALLATION LONG extension cord for second O2 Sensor....for use when installing any header using STOCK MIDPIPE.
Part Number: 61-0098L
Price: $51.45
Quantity:
This is the extension cord for the SECOND O2 sensor for those intending to use the RoadsterSport header or Racing Beat header with the FACTORY midpipe.

Note that the plugs for each sensor are unique so that it is impossible to mix them. Extension cord uses thermal insulated wire and factory connectors and care should be take to make sure the connectors do not contact the hot header because while the wires are thermally protected the connectors can melt if left in contact with the header. Installation of a header on a MX-5 Miata requires the removal of the primary catalytic converter that is incorporated into the stock exhaust manifold assembly. This stock manifold assembly has been equipped with two (2) sensor positions, one sensor before the primary catalytic converter (this unit is an air/fuel ratio sensor), and the second (an oxygen sensor) behind it. To accommodate the reinstallation of these sensors, the Racing Beat MX-5 header has been provided with two (2) sensor position fittings in the header primary tube collector. Since the oxygen sensor will now be reading the same oxygen levels as the air/fuel ratio sensor, the information that the oxygen sensor is providing to the ECU will result in an error code being triggered in the OBD II system, and the "check engine light" will illuminate. Although the MX-5 will continue to operate normally with the light illuminated (and an error code triggered), driving with the light illuminated may prevent detection of another engine related problem that may occur during the race event.

The Racing Beat MX-5 Race Header Wiring Kit allows for the repositioning of the oxygen sensor to an area behind the secondary catalytic converter located in the mid-pipe unit of the MX-5...or in the already installed O2 position behind the converter in a RoadsterSport midpipe. Once repositioned, this configuration will prevent an error code from being triggered. For stock midpipe installation this relocating of the oxygen sensor behind the secondary catalytic converter requires that the mid-pipe be removed from the car, a sensor hole be drilled (1/2-inch diameter) and a sensor nut be welded to the connecting pipe.

This kit includes a stainless steel oxygen sensor mounting bung, plug, wiring extension, and step-by-step installation instructions. The wiring harness extension that we supply utilizes OEM mounting connectors and custom made, high temperature Teflon-coated wire. This plug-in wire extension is hand-assembled by Racing Beat and is 100% compatible with the MX-5 factory oxygen sensor connectors.

*Legal in California only for racing vehicles, which may never be used upon a highway.
