smartTOP - Mazda MX-5

Didn't really want to spend over 300 dollars on a roof controller but now I can't live without it. Just makes the top operation so convenient. Bypasses the requirements to have the car stopped, shifter in neutral (manual), hand brake on, and having to hold the button until the top is fully up or down. Configurable with several settings to set it up how you like. Simple install. I didn't have any trouble unplugging the factory connector but some report that being the hardest part.

I ordered this product mid-week and was surprised when it arrived from the Mainland even before I had a chance to pick up my new (to me) Club PHRT! Two hours after getting the car I had the interior panel behind the drivers seat off and the tops wiring harness unplugged using an old fork from the kitchen to undo the safety clip. The module works flawlessly and is easily programmable using the PRHT buttons on the dash; this has come in handy when we encounter valet parking situations in Waikiki and we reset it to factory operation. I recommend keeping a photo of the 'programming matrix' graphic (found in the instructions) on your phone for fast reference to allow reprogramming when away from home. Also, I have found the module will work when the car is moving in reverse, which I did not expect. A great addition to a great car!

Well, put me in the camp of those who stopped squawking about the price/cost once I installed it and started using it.
I won't say it is "necessary", but you won't regret buying it.
So much better than the "hold button for 15 seconds while at a dead stop with the e-brake on".
Now raindrops on the windshield don't concern me much.

I was a bit skeptical of this purchase at first due to the price for something that seems son unnecessary for the MX5 PRHT but I was totally wrong. This product was easy to install, quite easy to program for you desired speed limit during hard top lowering, and best of all made me a believer first time I used it. Totally a great product overall. Good-Win Racing shipped it pretty quick and will definitely buy from them again.

Easy programming and install. Best mod to my Miata to date! It may sound expensive and unnecessary, but the smarttop module is the 1 mod that I use and appreciate on a daily basis. Do not hesitate to buy this, you will not regret it.

I'm a computer dummy and easily set up my Smarttop module on my computer before install.
The only thing that is a little difficult on this install was releasing the stock wiring plug in mainly because my fat fingers could not get in there.

Other than that, it's a great upgrade to the PRHT!

The only reason I gave the product 4 stars is due to the cost.

Like so many others, this seemed like a rather extravagant add-on, but after a few weeks with it, I've found it's one of the best modifications I've done with the car! A little bit tricky initially to get it programmed correctly (I did most of that through the button/beeps method utilizing the car's buttons). The installation wasn't difficult (there's a pretty decent pictorial on a Mazda Forum), though a tad awkward to access the connector latch behind the driver's seat. I found it also works when car is in reverse, which is nice when slowly and carefully backing out of the garage! Very, very convenient to be able to start the top up procedure as you're pulling into the driveway or a parking space or if it starts to rain while in traffic. And it looks kind of cool while doing it! Again, it does seem rather expensive for the device, but it's been very dependable so far, easy to incorporate into the space it goes in, and a blast to use!

It's a bit expensive for what it is, but it works as advertised and makes the PRHT experience much more convenient and enjoyable. Programming and installation were very straightforward, with the only difficulty being the unplugging of the OEM connector due to its inconvenient location and orientation.

Wish I knew this existed earlier. Easy to install, and it works with existing buttons on dash. Feels stock, and really should have been. Can now use it at any traffic lights without worrying if there is enough time, or pulling out of or into work etc. love it. Although I wish it was cheaper, it was worth it.

Best easy mod ever!
Easy install; it only took a few minutes. I plugged the device to my computer, clicked to select the options I wanted and then plugged it in the car.
I used to get in the car and have to wait to get the top down before being able to go, now I jump in, start driving, and then just click the down button and continue driving while the top goes down. When approaching a destination, I just click the down button and then I just focus on parking ;-)
