Miata 1990-2005: Exhaust: Catalytic Converter
Miata catalytic converters often clog with age and choke off performance. If your Miata won't accelerate strongly in the upper RPM range it may be a failing catalytic converter. Note that the 1990 through 1997 Miata came with a bolt in catalytic converter but the later 1999 through 2005 Miata had a converter welded into the exhaust midpipe.
