EBC Green Stuff Brake Pads - Rear

I changed to these EBC Green Stuff pads because my Mazda pads were over heating to repeated heavy braking, during a rapid descent of a road with tight turns, while driving in the local mountains.

Some of the binder in the factory pad would stick to the brake rotor, causing a rhythmic noise at wheel speed. This made the brakes feel as if the rotors had warped. They had not. The internal adhesive in factor pad had melted onto the rotor in one spot only, causing this noise. Green Stuff solved this problem completely.

As the product literature states Green Stuff does have good bite from cold. They get a bit better with increased heat, and they are quiet. In performance Green Stuff is comparable to a Hawk HPS pad in coefficient of friction and temperature range.

There is an elastomeric film on the back of the pad which deforms around the caliper, and eliminates squeal or vibration. This is a nice touch, and eliminates the need for an after market compound to be used in this location.

Manufacture of the pad backing plate is very precise. They fit EXACTLY.

EBC has provided a light layer of an abrasive which scours the surface of the disk, removing glazing on this disk during the first few dozen applications of the brake. This provides faster 'bedding in' of the pads.

The only down side is the fact that the pad does produce much more dust than an OEM pad. This is true for this whole group of 'sport' pads made from organic materials and not just for EBC pads. Organics have the advantage that they are gentler on the rotors.
