MX-5 Miata Racing Beat Header. Manufactured entirely from 304-stainless steel to provide both outstanding durability and appearance, the Racing Beat 4-to-1 configured Miata header is sure to offer the MX5 Miata owner many years of performance driving. Racing Beat's exclusive, cast stainless-steel engine-to-header flange features specially designed exhaust ports that transition smoothly to the primary tubing. Large diameter 1.7" OD tubing has been used for the primary tubing, collecting into a specially configured collector assembly. Exhaust gas exits the miata header through an OEM stainless-steel rear flange, mating to the factory connecting pipe section.
Developed in-house by Racing Beat, this miata header underwent several on-chassis dyno test tuning sessions to determine specific tubing lengths, collector configurations, and optimum tubing position. Emissions The installation of a miata header on a federal or California emissions equipped MX-5 requires the removal of the primary catalytic converter unit. However, the secondary catalytic converter incorporated into the mid-pipe section (aft of the header section) is retained. Both primary and secondary oxygen sensors are retained and are relocated into the header outlet collector. Although this configuration will not affect engine performance, this configuration will illuminate the check engine light on the vehicle unless a reflash of the ECU is done to disable that function. Another option to lower the risk of that check engine light is to use our RoadsterSport midpipe and O2 sensor extension cables to relocate the O2 sensors to before and after the catalytic converter in the midpipe (so you replicate the arrangement of sensors the factory ECU expects to see).
Again, because installation of this miata header requires removal of the first converter, this miata header can NEVER be CARB legal and is legal for off highway race use only. Each miata header kit comes complete with detailed installation instructions and a plug-in OEM style electrical extension wire for the relocation of the secondary oxygen sensor to the lower position in the header. The stock engine-to-header gasket can be reused if there are no visible signs of distress or wear. (Mazda utilizes a heavy duty metal gasket which we have found can be reused several times.)
Brian's Application Notes: Primary pipe 1.75 size a bit too big for normally aspirated 2.0 liter customers according to our testing, but a good torque choice for our 2.5 liter customers and 2.0 liter customers running superchargers! We know there are two other brands out there selling a 1.75 shorty header and charging MORE than this...yet compare the pictures and details and you will figure out the other guys are giving you nothing better than an OBX style cheap construction of cobbled together off-the-shelf straight and curved sections chopped up and welded back together instead of single longer smooth mandrel bends like you see here on the Racing Beat header. For the money, this Racing Beat MX5 header is EASILY the best 1.75 shorty available for those seeking a shorty header with primaries of this diameter.
