MX5 Miata Street Header features:
-Longer, equal length runners
-High-flow 5" round, 200cpi Ceramic Core Catalytic Converter
-EPA and OBD2 compliant, but NOT CARB APPROVED for California or other states that require CARB compliant (please check if your state requires CARB compliance before ordering), the Carsound 99659HM core is an EPA certified converter covering up-to 6.2L/6375 lbs so it easily handles the flow of our performance header while still delivering clean tailpipe emissions. Sorry, cannot ship to residents of California.

-Bolts to RoadsterSport MX5 Midpipe...or stock MX5 midpipe. Also saves weight, factory header assembly is 15.2 pounds and this RoadsterSport MX5 Street Header with converter is just 11 pounds! Converter has two year warranty (normally aspirated cars only, not for a supercharged Miata!), the rest is all stainless steel and has a LIFETIME warranty, even the flanges!
Currently for Manual Transmission only (a professional can install on the automatic but it requires re-engineering the cooling line layout and modification to the bell housing). Also, sorry to our Australian customers but this fits Left Hand Drive only!
We have included a number of extra features into our MX5 Miata Street Header which we believe customers will appreciate. We CNC machine the main flange to match the factory unit, including the bolt hole flange area thicknesses so that we are precisely replicating the factory fit to the head in terms of thread depth and space, etc. INSTALL NOTE: We have not included the O2 extension cords because we find it pretty easy to release the O2 wires from the factory bracket to which they are attached (follow the O2 wires until you reach that bracket).
RoadsterSport Stainless Steel HELMHOLTZ Midpipe. All stainless steel construction for years of driving pleasure. This MX5 Miata midpipe is slightly larger diameter than stock at 2.5 inches all the way through. Uses high quality SPUN catalytic converter with metal core (despite presence of converter this unit is not CARB approved). Now with option for ultra flow FIVE inch diameter converter. Standard FOUR inch diameter midpipe converter is great for 2.0 motors normally aspirated, the big 5 inch is for boosted cars and 2.5 conversions. Five inch fits manual transmission only. Uses new Helmholtz resonator midpipe which kills the 'boomy' drone other systems allow BEFORE it reaches your muffler.
The header and midpipe are legal for offroad race use only in California, and not CARB approved at this time.
RoadsterSport "Super-Q" Stainless Steel Premium Adjustable Sound MX5 Miata Exhaust. Our Best! We make FIVE very different Miata exhaust choices for the 2006 and newer MX5 Miata, including the RoadsterSport RACE, RoadsterSport STREET Single, the RoadsterSport II Duals, the RoadsterSport Q, this super premium duals unit we affectionately call the RoadsterSport Super-Q. This attenuation chamber design unit is the most mild and mellow on an otherwise stock Miata...about 10 to 15% louder than stock...with a deep burble. This unit was designed for both improved flow performance AND the best sound absorbing ability possible. This premium MX5 muffler is the BEST choice for those who plan such additional mods as a supercharger or header change (which unleashes a massive amount of additional sound). By using smooth mandrel bent 2.5 inch tubing to redirect the flow for a side entrance to the muffler we engineered a sound wave attenuation first chamber to knock down volume level dramatically while maintaining a flow-through design. Our latest and best dyno results for the header change which are in our forum were obtained with this muffler....ALL THE FLOW, without the noise! Weight is 24 pounds.

PICTURE OF FACTORY MX5 HEADER BELOW, Note the pinch point where the factory header suffers the primaries pinched in half, circled in red below. That pinch point chokes the power this Miata 2.0 motor can otherwise make. Our Roadstersport Street MX5 Header eliminates that pinch point, extends the primary length to max torque gains, while retaining a high efficiency converter.
BRIAN'S APPLICATION NOTES: Notice in picture of our catted RoadsterSport header that we pushed the converter as far down against the lower flange as possible to maximize the length of our primaries to maximize the torque gains. Dyno Below shows results of configuration we expect most will run. Low line best results with stock intake and stock exhaust, high line is results with this Roadstersport Street Header, Roadstersport Midpipe and Roadstersport Super-Q exhaust. No tune done for any of these results, adding our MotoEast tune can often add even more.
We include O2 Bung BEFORE and AFTER Converter so you can keep your factory O2 Sensors inline and prevent engine codes. Notice in dyno that the gains in torque are strongest at the low rpm range but extend through the mid range and all the way to redline, that's a torque improvement you can feel every time you pull away from a stop and every time you grab a higher gear!

Read full header and exhaust installation hints, and see PICTURES, and notes in our forum Installation Instruction Section! The first secret is LUBE your hangers well with dish soap so you can get flanges aligned properly, and torque the supplied hardware to NO MORE THAN 25-30 ft/lbs (using more torque will actually result in LESS seal because you will pucker the flange out at the middle).
A little on the science, we targeted 120-130 hertz range which is where most folks report uncomfortable 'drone' or 'boominess' and got a total of 48 decibel max drop right at the 125 hertz level...which is a MASSIVE reduction. Nonetheless, looking at broader range we get an average 20 decibel drop from 115 to 138 hertz with reasonable 8 decibel drop in the ranges of 95 to 115 and 138 to 180 hertz.
Shot on our Project 2012 with our RoadsterSport Street Header, RoadsterSport Helmholtz Midpipe, RoadsterSport SuperQ Exhaust. In this first sample notice what you do NOT hear, I get on it briefly and then engine brake almost down to a stop and during that engine braking the system gets more and more quiet where normal systems would drone as you engine brake down through 3000 rpms to 2000 rpms.
Second Video Sample: Shot from the bumper this clip massively exaggerates the volume but notice again what you don't hear, lots or racy sound when on throttle but every time I close throttle it quickly gets quiet instead of drone like many systems.

This was an expensive purchase for me...especially being a Canadian as the Canadian dollar is worth about 30 per cent less than the U.S. dollar these days. I was looking for a system that would give a sportier exhaust note but yet stay livable on a highway cruise. I am not a kid...I'm sixty-one years young.
From my research here and elsewhere I had high expectations for this product. I am very happy to say it has greatly exceeded those expectations. It sounds just right when you want it to and relaxes to a perfectly acceptable low growl on a cruise. My car is a PRHT model and normal conversation is easy with the top up. No unwanted droning or booming at all. Very impressive. The sound is nice and impressive even with the tailpipe baffles installed. Removing them produced an even more wonderful throatier sound but still not excessively loud. Pretty much perfect. I'm leaving the baffles out. There is also a noticeable increase in power. She pulls quite strong all the way up the scale and sounds just awesome while winding it out.
I work at a Nissan dealer. I assisted one of our journeyman techs with the install. The header installation went pretty much as described in the forum instructions. The O2 sensor lead lengths were fine with a bit of length to spare. No check engine light issues after the install and we did not use washers with the sensor installation. The high build quality of all the parts was self-evident. Everything installed, lined up and fit like a dream. It took us about four hours total.
This system is a perfect example of 'you get what you pay for'. Thankyou Brian Goodwin. You have created a terrific exhaust system for a car that is notoriously difficult to tune an exhaust system to.
I read quite a few blog entries on the Mazda forum about exhaust upgrades, listened to your YouTube videos about this system before making a purchase and this system is exactly as advertised, just enough roadster rumble, doesn't drown out my tunes and the extra pep is noticeable, even my mechanic was impressed with this system - good job GWR!!
I read a number of reviews about this package and a number of reviews about other packages and decided to go with this. I had originally thought I was going to install it myself but time was ticking away so my wife suggested taking it to our go-to garage. Northeast Transmission installed it in no time for a reasonable price.
I was the first one between my wife and I to drive it when it was done. It's great. Just as described. Nice tones when you have your foot in it, very tame when you don't. As Brian has attested, wife approved, lol.
In the short term, very satisfied. We'll put some miles on it and maybe check back later.
Excellent product. All three pieces (cat header, Helmholtz mid pipe, and Super Q muffler) fit perfectly. Well made and great appearance. Sounds good in the garage, can't wait for the snow to melt to get out on the street and try it out on the track.
Live at 9000 feet. Good power increase and nice audio.
Added this package the same time I upgraded to a 2.5l motor. Very pleased with the sound, not brashy like a ricer but just a nice rumble that is just a little louder than stock.
The Helmholtz mid pipe does an excellent job of knocking the drone down that other folks with freer flowing systems complain about.
I highly recommend this complete exhaust system for those daily drivers like me that want a little more performance and growl!
This is an outstandingly well made system that does everything that is advertized. Accelerate or downshift quickly and you are rewarded with the an outstanding soundtrack. Cruise the Interstate with the top down and the exhaust is hard to hear over the wind. Cruise the Interstate with the PRHT up and the drone is almost eliminated by the Helmholtz mid-pipe.
I have not had a tune, had it on the dyno or had a track day but in MHO the performance has improved noticeably.
I had Rocky do the installation and it fits perfectly. No rattles or bangs. As the head is very close to the alternator the ceramic coating is helpful in lowering the heat transferred to engine bay. It is a testament to the precision of the manufacturing that such close tolerances are maintained. It is too bad that the system is hidden from view as it looks great when viewed under the car.
Man, this was pricey. But now that it's in you can't wipe the smile off my face. I get to use this at EVERY. SINGLE. STOP. Wide open, this releases an absolutely beautiful roar. Admittedly a bit loud, but not too loud. Glass packs are available to tame it further, or pull out stock packs for more roar. The power increase is not huge but IS substantial. Combined with an optional tune, I now cannot keep my foot out of the carburetor. Yes, it's that much fun. There is a tunnel near my office and wide open the roar and reverb is a song to heaven about the joy of roadsters. I also now typically keep the car running above 3500 rpm for traffic maneuvers and to share this wonderful exhaust sound. A habit from motorcycling days. You need to have power on tap when things go awry, or that distracted soccer mom tries to take you out. This allows me to practically JUMP ahead or out of the way. It's a thrill and and absolute JOY to use. Get it all at once or piece by piece, but do it. Be glad we do not have to pay Porsche prices with our Miatas!
What it will NOT do: give you that deep, throaty, V8 roar.
What it WILL do: Give you a thrilling race car sound, and the performance that goes with it.
WARNING: Once you install this you will start driving your car past the stock limits, and you will want to start upgrading other parts of the car. Brian and GoodWin Racing know their stuff, and they know how to wring the adrenaline out of an already great car. Buy this, and you will be back for more.
