DESCRIPTION

The absolute best big brake kit for the NC. Available in two versions, street and race.

The street version uses street pin/bobbin hardware on the floating rotors to limit float to keep noise down on the street. Rotor slots are classic style straight slots.

The race version uses race pin/bobbin hardware for maximum float. These can click and rattle but offer maximum performance for racetrack use. Rotor slots are bi-slot style (criss-crossing arcs).

*** The front calipers in this kit use the StopTech DR21 / Wilwood 7420 pad shape. That means there's a wide range of pad choices for this kit. Type "DR21" or "7420" into the search box on the upper left of our site to see all our pad options for this caliper.***

Kit include necessary brackets, hardware and brake lines to complete installation.

Wheel clearance can be easily checked with the fit template found HERE. (Click this link)

Pads

Street version of this kit ships with Stoptech 309 compound pads. These are a "triple duty" performance street pad and can be used for street, autocross and LIGHT track duty. Pairs well with a street pad in the rear such as the Porterfield R4S.
Race version ships with Stotpech SR33 race pads. Pairs well with a race pad in the rear such as the Porterfield R4.

Caliper - All New Forged/Anodized C43 Caliper Design

StopTech 2-piece calipers have the lowest amount of flex and deflection among 25 of the leading caliper models (including some monoblocks) from well-known manufacturers. This is accomplished using the StopTech patented bolt-in bridge, which is strong enough to stop distortion without sacrificing cooling through the top of the caliper.

Rotors - 309mm (12.16") Slotted 2-piece Floating Rotors

StopTech Pillar Vane Brake Rotors are engineered to provide superior strength while reducing rotor weight and running cooler. The diamond shaped pillars provide brake pad surface stability as well as reduced rotating weight over rotors of similar strength. Airflow is also improved over straight vane rotors, allowing quick heat dissipation that results in greatly reduced fade.

Floating Rotors: High grip cars have the ability to generate enough lateral grip to flex the knuckle or upright. As the upright flexes, the rotor pushes the piston back into the caliper. The next time the brakes are applied, extra pedal travel is needed to compensate for the piston, "knockback". The floating rotor will "take up" some of that knockback, reducing the effect. This kit is first and foremost a track-focused high performance BBK, and in our testing the floating rotor is a crucial part of this brake system. HOWEVER, please note that floating rotors can produce some "clicking" and other noises during street use, even with the street hardware which helps reduce this.

Installation note: The floating rotors ship pre-assembled. When you remove the rotors from the packaging, you will notice the rotor appears to be loose and can move independently from the mounting hat. The hardware is not loose, this is normal. Do not attempt to over-tighten the hardware that fastens the hat to the rotor.

These kits are MADE TO ORDER. Typical turn around time from StopTech is 6-8 weeks.

APPLICATION NOTES: The street version of this kit includes "street" pads and rotor hardware to make this kit work on the street, but ultimately this is a hardcore and uncompromising race kit through and through, do not be surprised by some clicking and rattling from the floating rotors during street use.

Brian's Thoughts. I have run all the Big Brake kits. I think the floating rotors used in the StopTech kit make too much noise for street use, thus it would not be my choice for a dual purpose car, though we have customers street driving it that don't agree with me on that point. But for full race applications this kit is good, and sized appropriately to match with factory rear brakes. But my personal choices are the Good-Win Racing 'Budget NC' big brakes for a dual purpose NC on a budget, and the big 12.88 Wilwood front and rear with 6 piston front for the best balanced track setup for high power NC owners.
