DESCRIPTION

This Optional Shroud is for use with the Racing Beat High Flow Miata Intake - 1999-05 Miata - ALL non-turbo models. Racing Beat has developed a Cold Air Intake system for the Miata that is both functional and attractive. Note this Shroud does NOT include the intake, the picture is to show how this optional shroud fits around the intake that is sold separately as item 17R-1018C on this website.

Intended to function with the Racing Beat High Flow Intake Assembly on all 1999-2004 non-turbo Miatas, the Cold Air Shroud Duct helps the intake to draw ONLY cooler ambient air into the intake duct. Mazda placed a sizable opening in the area engine compartment just behind the driver side headlamp. The inlet end of the RB High Flow Intake was positioned almost directly over this opening. Each shroud is produced from hand-laid fiberglass mat and finished a high-gloss black gel-coat finish.

The resulting product is a beautiful piece that is both strong and lightweight. Fitted to the exact contours of the engine compartment, and finished with an interlocking insulation trim, the precision fit of this intake virtually eliminates the introduction of hot engine compartment air into the intake. As with all Racing Beat parts, RB undertook extensive testing during the development of this kit. Prior to testing, a hole was drilled into the end of the KandN filter and a temperature sensor probe was inserted, which lead to a digital temperature that could be read in the cockpit. During test runs at 55 MPH (79 degrees ambient air temperature), intake air temperatures were recorded up to 15 degrees cooler inside the air filter with the shroud installed!

California Emissions Notice: This intake shroud has received an emissions exemption from CARB (California Air Resource Board). Each intake shroud is supplied with a compliance decal which lists the applicable Executive Order number and the specific application. Simply install this decal under the hood of your car prior to your next tail pipe emissions test.
