Add FUN right here with one of our best selling MX5 Miata Exhausts! YES, we have confirmed all our exhaust goodies fit our ND2 Gen Miata! Good-Win Racing makes and sells more MX5 Miata Exhausts than any other company, and we use that experience to help YOU find the best MX5 exhaust choice. We have extensive descriptions of each exhaust choice on the product pages. See below for answers to the most common questions when shopping exhaust options for the MX5:
Do NOT wrap headers. Wrapping headers VOIDS THE WARRANTY on every brand of header made. The wrap holds moisture and also gathers petroleum emissions from under the hood like any oil leaking (meaning eventually you can have a fire). Result includes fast degradation of that gorgeous polished stainless surface and the welds. Wrapping headers is something that came from Drag Racing, but the Pro Drag Racers know it kills the header in exchange for another 1 or 2 hp scavenging benefit and they accept that it also means they get to rebuild the headers at the end of every race season. Instead of wrapping headers consider our ceramic coated versions, or our header heat blankets (which don't trap moisture). RoadsterSport warranties are to original purchasers.
Considering a header?
A high-flow header eliminates the catalytic converter present in the factory header. This unleashes much more sound and volume. Customers considering a header should look to our special header version SuperQ for a muffler that can handle the additional sound.
Brian's General Exhaust Options Notes
Sound preference is VERY SUBJECTIVE, some want more sound, some want less. And there are other considerations such as pitch, generally the single tip designs have a higher and more exotic sound. Result is that our entire team prefers the higher pitch sound of the single tip designs, whether we are talking our quiet "SuperQ" or more aggressive volume choices like our SuperStreet or Race mufflers. But many customers prefer the twin tip looks and lower pitch, to each their own, and they will generally prefer a dual tip whether it be our SuperStreet Twin Tip, or the Super-Q Twin Tip, etc. We have numerous videos in the product descriptions below to help you decide which choice you prefer.
Manual vs Automatic
The RoadsterSport Race and similar straight pipe designs (SuperStreet, Superstreet Twin) are designed for the three pedal owners out there who love to zing these amazing sportscars to redline daily. Know who you are, if you are actually driving the car around at very low rpms our experience is that you will prefer the bigger mufflers such as our several choices of SuperQ, in our experience this includes almost all owners of the optional automatic transmission.
"BURBLES AND POPS"
Higher flow exhausts will tend to unmask the burble and 'pops' of unburned fuel that are NORMAL in every exhaust system but normally below the hearing ability of the average consumer. If you have no idea what we're talking about in the last sentence then please go on YOUTUBE and search "sports car exhaust pops" for a quick education. Funny story about exhaust 'pops' when the good folks at BMW designed the MINI they wanted to make it feel less econobox and more sports car and they included a highflow exhaust from the factory so consumers could hear the fun pops from the first test drive.
HELMHOLTZ TECHNOLOGY
A revolution in exhaust technology now applied to the MX5. Many of our new exhausts implement a HELMHOLTZ chamber that massively reduces the standing wave 'boominess' inside the exhaust system BEFORE it gets to your ear! Cuts the 'booming' frequencies of 120-130hz by 48+db inside a top up Miata cabin which is a common source of complaints with aftermarket exhausts on the MX5. Result is all the FUN throaty sounds you want, and no drone! You won't find this tech in any of the mufflers from other brands out there, because it adds far more development and manufacturing cost... but we utilize this awesome tech in ALL our RoadsterSport muffler options for the ND.
