PART NUMBER: 61-1892
Includes: -Long Mount -Short Mount -Tow Hook -Acorn nut and bolt
Installation Notes: The tow hook assembly ships loose so you can install and adjust it, but do NOT leave it loose or it will loosen up more and come apart while driving. Important to tighten both of the allen bolts that hold the red ring to the head. The ring should not be left be able to swing, position it horizontally and then tighten it down. Unlike the factory plastic GoPro mount the GoPro mounting tabs on this are made of metal and therefore requires substantially more torque than the plastic mounts to keep the GoPro steady and on the car!
This is a solid product. I've not had to use it for a tow, but have zero concerns about it breaking or not holding up. I do not leave mine on, but if you are someone who does, the hook looks amazing. I needed a tow hook for track events, and I was surprised to find that many of the cheaper products are for looks and are not recommended for towing. This is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for", and if you actually need something that works, I don't see how this product would let you down.
I like everything about the build and quality but wish the short adaptor was 1" shorter.
Worked like a charm at my last track day. Knock on wood, I haven't had to use it to get towed off from the runoff areas, but it held my GoPro like a champ and was solidly snug in the socket. Went into the back tow hook mount well.
HOWEVER, if you have an NC3 like me, the front mount requires you to remove more than just the plastic cap near the radiator, and you would need to remove another piece to correctly fit the tow hook in the front. It's not a fault of the tow hook; more just that you might need to cut into some of the plastic bits to keep those bumper components mounted on the car while the tow hook is also in place. See the Miata forums for some people's DIY solutions in that.
I'd love if GWR manufactures something like that in the future to fit the tow hook at the same time instead of a DIY solution!
Looks good on car, seems very substantial. Fortunately has not been but to a full test.
Summary: NC1 uses the same SHORT Mounting shaft for Front and Rear. LONG mounting shaft is not used.
I had some miscommunication during my phone conversation with GWR as I thought this kit would allow me to use the LONG mount for the Front and the SHORT mount for the Rear; meaning I only need to swap the Tow Hook ring each time.
On the NC1, the Long mount is useless as it doesn't fit the chassis. So when switching the Tow Hook from front to rear, you need to remove the SHORT mount shaft that's used for the front and rear. Not a big deal, just more effort and IMO, cosmetically it doesn't look as nice in the front since this is a universal length and the short mount still sticks out about 1" too long.
Looks solid, having 2 options is nice. I haven't had to use it yet but I'm confident it won't break
