DESCRIPTION

BRAND NEW 2.5 Mazda Factory Motor for TORQUE like you have never felt in your MX5 Miata before! Same motor used in our Project Blue 2006, see our forum for lots of additional pictures and materials.

This is a long block brand new direct from Mazda, not remanufactured. This is the most desirable version of Mazda's 2.5L from a Mazda 3 for swapping into the NC Miata as it has the strong internals and is less work to swap in than some of the Ford variants.

SHIPPING:
Flat rate shipping cost of $400 is for truck freight within the continental US. Truck freight can deliver to a home address, but they do not provide a narrow delivery window estimate like you may be used to for small packages. The best you might get could be a window of a few days, with no time of the day specified, and delivery requires that someone be there to receive it or there will be additional fees if the driver has to try again the next day. Therefore we STRONGLY recommend that you provide a business address for shipping to give the best chance at avoiding delivery issues.
We will not ship these motors to Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada.

This is not a swap kit, there is some work you need to do to swap this 2.5L motor into your NC in place of the stock 2.0L. See our forum thread for details about what needs to be done, which includes carrying over the crank pulley and oil pan from your old 2.0, and porting the intake manifold from your 2.0 to mate neatly with the NEW Mazda L5Y0 2.5 motor (note that if your old motor had rod failure then likely need new oil pan). You will also need an ECU reflash package, available from Mike at XERO Limit.

Many enthusiasts do the research on what is required and then tackle the swap in their home garage, which is doable for those with good set of mechanic tools and experience working on cars. If you are going to have a shop do the swap for you, we typically hear that the labor ends up at about two grand because a number of things off the 2.0 need to be machined to fit the 2.5, including intake manifold. But keep in mind different shops have different rates, and you will always get a better quote from a shop with experience with Miatas because they will have a better idea of what they're getting into, whereas a shop that's never done this swap will probably over-quote to cover the possibilities of unforeseen hurdles.

There are lots of options to consider doing while you have the engine out of the way! Things to consider are our upgraded engine mounts, headers, radiator, and clutch (all are easier to do if done at the same time as the motor transplant). Or, skip all the extras except the reflash and for about the same money as forced induction kits you get your extra power and torque without any added heat or wear on the motor! And you get it without a big jump in extra weight on the front of the car, extra belts and complications, just pure smooth BIGGER factory motor torque everywhere from start to redline!

Low line is original best stock run on this car (roughly 140 range on this dyno AT THE WHEELS), middle line is with RoadsterSport Max Power 1.6 Inch Header, RoadsterSport 2.5 inch Midpipe and RoadsterSport 2.5 inch muffler (upper 160s range)....and high pair of overlapping lines are with 2.5 conversion with 200 HP at the WHEELS using our NEW MAX POWER 1.8 inch primary header, RoadsterSport Helmholtz 2.5 Midpipe, and SuperQ muffler, with 195 Ft/lbs of Torque! 95 octane! The stock exhaust can be used but results will be choked by at least 30 hp!

BRIAN's APPLICATION NOTES: Note our recommended 1.8 inch primary header shown attached to the motor in these pictures is SO BIG that you cannot lower the motor with drop mounts or lowering mounts because this header is already using ALL AVAILABLE SPACE. We do suggest our RoadsterSport MX-5 Competition Motor Mounts with any 2.5 conversion.

Mazda has a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty on the engine. However, if the engine is in a car that never had the engine as an option (NC only had the 2.0L motor in the US) and also has other modifications - such as a different oil pan, and the counterbalance shafts are removed, etc. we cannot guarantee that Mazda would honor the warranty if anything happened to it. To date, we have never had someone with one of these fresh engines have an issue that required looking into actually using that warranty within that timeframe.
