DESCRIPTION

Our favorite NC engine mount for smooth shifting and longer transmission life.

These are 40% stiffer than the stock factory mounts yet still have enough rubber to damp motor noise and vibrations. By minimizing twisting of the driveline the alignment in the transmission is less stressed and shifting is smoother, resulting in smoother shifts and longer transmission life.

Supplied boxed as a set of two.

Brian's Application Notes: A nice redesign of the factory mount it manages to come in a few ounces lighter on weight despite being much stiffer, thanks to slightly less metal in the cradle but substantially more rubber, and that rubber is higher durometer. We have even stiffer mounts but these are our top recommendation for most customers, perfect for any aggressively driven NC that does track and autocross but still civilized enough for daily street use.

RoadsterSport MX-5 Competition Motor Mounts

I am very impressed with these mounts.

My car is stock except for sway bars. It is my only car, I drive it to work, track it, go on road trips with it, etc. I really did not want to mess up the comfort of my car. I enjoy the stock comfort for everyday driving and my girlfriend loves to ride in it (she is not a car person). I did not want to mess this up.

I bought these mounts because I had a gift card and figured I would give them a shot as I always felt the shifting was rather imprecise. If they increased the vibrations too much I would just sell them. Safe to say I will be keeping them.

I would not say these mounts increase the stock vibrations at all but rather changed them. In my opinion, all NC vibrate somewhat (not a lot). I would say these mounts decreased the amplitude of those vibrations but increased the frequency with a net 0 gain or reduction in comfort. Again, they didn't add or reduce any of the stock vibrations but rather changed them. My girlfriend didn't even notice a difference. Perfect!

As for shift feel it is definitely more solid and consistent. It not an out of this world difference but it does what you would imagine it does mechanically, and nothing more. Reducing the amount of twist in the driveline making for more consistent shifts which is great. Its a perfect incremental gain, like a performance part you would get from a manufacturer themselves.

These mounts truly made the car better with no downside. I would recommend them to anyone.

Love them. Tiny NVH increase but very minimal. These are what should have been on the car from the factory. The biggest difference is takeoff and shifting. I used to sometimes get "locked out" of 3rd on "spirited" shifts and now thats just not an issue anymore. Takeoff is also smoother and more consistent. Finding the engagement point of the clutch is much easier now.

In 2016 I purchased a 2008 PRHT with 88,000 miles. Within a few months I drove to Brian's shop where the world famous Rocky (in his shop) installed a giant slew of gear. This included a new MZR 2.5, triple pass radiator, Happy Meal Combo, upgraded brakes, Progress Coils and Sways, full stainless exhaust from ceramic headers to the lovely Super Q, and more. Since then with the continued support of Sean, Ryan and Brian I added Hypergrams, a recovery tank and other goodies.

One thing we forgot were motor mounts. A big mistake. Now with 122k on the original mounts I was having serious issues. Last March 2020, just as Covid was starting to rip apart the world, my car was falling apart. It sounded like the exhaust system was slamming the chassis, like a heat shield was rattling off the car. I was scared to drive it. Numerous shops could find nothing loose.

In Feb of 2021 I installed competition motor mounts and the car was like new. (Thanks Ryan) Everything was quiet and tight. It was as if I had installed a new transmission. The car never performed like this since I bought It. It became the tight slot car I always wanted. This of course was due to the fact my 88,000 mile Miata had worn mounts that must have seamed "Good Enough". My engine was banging on the chassis! However, the introduction of the 2.5 and all of the extra goodies just finished off the mounts in the following years.

These new mounts have completely changed the character of my car. I now want to drive it all of the time. My transmission never shifted as smooth and tight as it does today. Thanks to everyone at Goodwin for supporting our Miatas, especially NCs. If you have miles on your Miata you owe it to yourself and your car to change your mounts. I can think of no modification that improved my driving experience more than these new competition mounts.

These are great mounts, huge improvement over the AWR lowering mounts I had installed on my 2.5. NVH reduced to almost stock levels while still managing the turbo power. The lowering mount brackets I used with these mounts are another story. See my comments on them for more info.

Exactly what Rick said. It doesnt disturb the GT either, it is perfect.

Very good quality mounts direct bolt in very pleased. I replaced will doing motor upgrade.

With my old 70 durometer AWR engine mount wearing out, I was looking for something a little more comfortable but still acceptably sporty this time around. Since I was looking for a little more comfort but still with a lot of sportiness in it, I opted for the GWR competition mount instead of the (seemingly) stiffer EPDM NC engine mount. I am glad to report that I am very happy with the results.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I am going to rehash the saying that "Mazda should have included these stiffer Mazdaspeed-style competition engine mount straight from the factory" instead of using the soft OEM rubber mounts that they used. At idle and during regular street driving, these engine mounts still vibrate ever so slightly to remind you that the NC is a proper sports cars, and that she is ready to play any time at your command. I'd have to say that throttle modulation as well as power delivery is not quite as immediate and direct as the 70 durometer AWR mounts, but neither is the driving nearly as harsh and buzziness. Instead of a soft, overly dampened delay that I seem to remember from the OEM mounts, these competition mounts merely took all the harsh edges out of the equation and leaves the driver with a firmly dampened sensation.

During the times when high performance driving is called for, the GWR mounts can easily keep up with any action you throw at it. Shifts are quick and crisp. Again, it doesn't have the same raw directness as the AWR, but at the same time, it has none of the AWR's harshness and rough edges either. With the OEM engine mount, I used to miss a lot of aggressive 2-3 upshifts and 3-2 downshifts because the engine mounts just couldn't hold the engine still enough to allow me to slot the shifter into the proper cog. Since installing the GWR competition mounts, I have yet to encounter any difficulty with up/downshifting at the autox or the track. These engine mounts just won't miss a beat.

Overall, I am very happy with the balanced performance that these mounts are delivering. They do not beat me up with NVH during regular street use, but at the same time, they always keep up with whatever crazy action I decide to throw at them. In short, I am going to sound like a broken record again -- these engine mounts should really have come straight from the factory with the car in the first place.

These work as advertised, there is a bit more vibration felt in the shifter & steering wheel but not much. The improvement in shifting is well worth the additional slight vibration. I have the Goodwin engine brace on my Miata as well as these mounts & am very happy with this combination.

Installation is an easy swap, you'll reuse the steel shells from the original mounts, so everything is a bolt right in swap.
