DESCRIPTION
Autocrossers, track day junkies, and other hard MX5 drivers have complained about a balking shift under high G loads and high rpms... Under high loads your engine leans over so far that it actually twists the transmission!
Adding this brace stabilizes the engine and prevents heavy G loads from affecting your otherwise crisp shifts....and your transmission will live MUCH longer! Mounts to both the right front shock tower and the right front side of the head of the engine. Nickel-plated adjusters with black powdercoated bar and mounts will look great in your engine bay. Available with street "softer" bushing to avoid any vibration transfer in your daily driver MX5.
BRIAN'S Application NOTES: Our 2007 MX5 had issues smoothly getting into third gear when pushed hard because the motor would be so leaned over that the alignment for the gear change was altered, and this brace cured the issue entirely...this made our shifts smooth when pushing the Miata hard. <2020 UPDATE: These used to be offered with either a hard or a soft bushing. Now, both hard and soft bushings are included in the box so you can choose what is best for you. RED is soft and BLACK is the firmer bushing.
FITMENT NOTES:
- Will not fit with shock tower braces because this item is connecting directly to the passenger side shock tower. Thus, if you have a shock tower brace please look at our RoadsterSport engine mounts as your best choice to clean up shifting smoothness.
- May require drilling/enlarging mounting holes to fit.
Note pictures below show old version that did not have a bushing on the engine side, and did not have a heim joint on the shock tower side. That version is discontinued but the pics still serve to show where the brace mounts.

Engine Brace
This is easily the best not-quite-$200 I have ever spent on my car! I have had issues with the first to second gear crunch (at high RPM, in a tight corner, or just with a harder shift) since I purchased my 5MT in July of 2014. This brace with the harder bushing has greatly improved precision of shifting as well as the overall feel of my car. Those who cannot stand vibration may want to order the brace with the softer bushing (although my brace came with the softer bushing in a separate bag) but I feel that the harder bushing yields a more noticeable benefit. The grind from first to second as well as the occasional ka-chunk when downshifting from third to second have both become far less frequent - almost non-existent - since installing this brace.
I would have given this product five stars had it included instructions. I had to just kind of figure it out from the photos provided here and on forums - it wasn't a difficult install but did require a few "adjustments" for proper fitment. Another minor disappointment was that the finish on the bar between the two mounting points is a bit flawed - if I cared more about the appearance of my engine bay I probably would have returned this for the same item without this flaw - and my brace has pieces that are both gray and black so it looks a little "pieced together".
Overall, I am very impressed with the appearance of this brace and would only add installation instructions for my own purposes. Those who keep a squeaky-clean engine bay may expect a little more attention to aesthetics on the manufacturer's part.
