Porterfield R4 Brake Pad - Front MX-5 Club

I did not enjoy these pads. I tried 2 sets to confirm I didn't have a bad experience the first time around and the second set was just as bad. Pay attention to operating temperatures. In the Florida heat, even on a stock miata with 200TW tires, Sebring cooks these pads beyond their maximum temperature range (tested with temperature paint). These pads cooked and did not provide consistent or reliable stopping at Sebring International Raceway. They lasted 2 track days (total of approximately 6 hours) per set - so at least they wore consistently. For comparison: Last event at Sebring swapped to Hawk DTC-70's half way through the day and dropped 2 seconds from my time - Hawks provided later braking points, consistent stopping power, and did not overheat.

Watch your temperatures and pick the pad for your situation. These did not work for me in FL - Sebring or Daytona.

Thank you for your feedback Elliot! The factory ND rotors are small; only 11" diameter, and so at brake-heavy tracks with factory brake size they will run EXTREMELY HOT. Larger rotors are needed to bring the temperatures down. For cars cooking race pads, look to our big brake kit options to get much longer pad and rotor life and more stable temperatures.

I wish I had found these pads back in May. After a 2.5 hour open track session, only stopping twice to let out tire pressure and to refuel, the pads remained 100% consistent from start to finish. Torque, initial bite and modulation are telekinetic! 3.7 mile international road course at Sebring and over an hour at or near threshold braking and these pads never suffered even the slightest bit of fade. Ran about 180 miles this evening and only took about 2mm of the front pads. Here is the craziest part, very very infrequent squeal on or off the track, virtually none.

Buy these pads and save some serious coin!
