DESCRIPTION

The Cusco Type OS strut bar for the ND MX-5 features a tubular aluminum oval shaft with a high polish finish. The aluminum bar possesses high rigidity and resists flex while stiffening up your engine bay.

This bar for the ND MX-5 also connects to the firewall. The end plates are powder coated in traditional Cusco blue for a long lasting beautiful finish. Installation is easy and all necessary hardware is included...if your Miata came with factory shock tower brace and has the necessary connections from the firewall (otherwise you need the OEM bracket with those connection we offer here as our part number 60-1238F "Cowl Mounting Bracket for Shock Tower Brace").

Cusco 3-Point Shock Tower Brace

Looks great. I was concerned about whether the Goodwin x shock tower brace would cause issues with access to the oil fill, so went with this shock tower brace. Pulled out the black tube steel stock unit that came with my RF GT (are all those flex points intentional? I dunno...) I think the Cusco bar is only a touch lighter, but it allows access to the top of the struts unlike the stock unit, and I've got a suspension upgrade in my near future.

Easy to install other than joining the club of the many who've snapped off the mounting pin on the airbox by putting too much torque (factory manual says torque to 12-19 ft lbs, but mine snapped at 12) when tightening, but now that I've replaced the airbox everything looks great. Besides using a large washer under the bolt on the airbox pins, I added a spring washer (not a lock washer - spring washers work at lower torque levels) in the hopes it would help keep things held together.

I suspect that while close to the weight of the stock bar, it's probably stiffer without all the flex points built in. Now, on to installing the Cusco rear bar...

Nice 3 point tower brace to replace the factory brace. This is necessary after adding Ohlin coil overs so you can access the shock adjustment knob. Instructions were worthless but its an easy swap.

I like this brace. My wife was insistent we go with the automatic after having a stick Mustang. I still tend to drive aggressively and this brace helps tremendously. Having said that, I can't thank Brian enough for his help with the installation. The directions came in Japanese and a couple emails to him got me where I needed to install both the top brace and the mounting bracket needed. Thanks!
