DESCRIPTION
Anodized Aluminum Clutch Pedal Extension for the 2006-2015 MX5. A Goodwin Racing exclusive! Designed specifically for the NC generation MX5 pedal with all rubber factory cover. NOT a universal or generic part that *kind of* fits.CNC cut from solid aluminum and then anodized for a durable finish. The result is a rigid part that will last a lifetime.
The clutch pedal extension spacer gives you better reach to the clutch pedal. If you feel like you have the perfect seat position for your height, arms and legs... but when you press that clutch pedal all the way to the floor your leg has to stretch a bit, and you don't want to adjust the seat forwards to fix that because then you're too close to the wheel, then this is your solution.
This extension spacer adds 1.5" to the height of the clutch pedal so that your leg doesn't have to strain to get that pedal all the way down at stop lights, in traffic, etc.
Great for anyone with shorter legs, but also works to improve comfort for those of "average" height too. Tall guys with long legs - this isn't for you, because you don't have the problem that this item solves.
NOT very compatible with the factory optional metal/rubber pedal cover, because that cover is much less flexible than the standard all-rubber cover, and nearly impossible to reinstall. If you have a metal pedal cover, we suggest you switch to the standard all-rubber cover that we offer separately on our site, part number 61-3029.
Install notes: You will need a 4mm allen wrench, which is NOT included, the T style shown below is the most easy for opening the extension but a small 90 degree style is easier to complete the install in the tight pedal area. Remove the rubber grip from your factory clutch pedal. Then slide each half of the extension over the clutch pedal so that the metal pedal pad slides into the grooves inside the extension. Once both halves are on the pedal and merged together, install both bolts to hold the extension together (drop of thread locker won't hurt if you got it). Finally, install the rubber pedal pad onto the new extension. Note that the rubber is HARD to stretch over the extension. That's normal, and necessary for it to have a snug fit so that it doesn't move. A small metal pick with a bend in it can help you get the flap of the rubber underneath the lip of the extension. If your current rubber pedal pad is worn out or torn, it may not stay securely on the pedal extension. If it's easy to get the pad on/off, then it is likely torn. You can get a fresh rubber pad from Mazda, part # D350-43-028.

I ordered this pedal extension to help me with my short leg issue. I had no idea how much this would change my driving experience! Installation was easy enough. I did the trick of putting the pad on first, and then clamping the entire piece closed around the pedal. Lining it up took a couple tries, but nothing too difficult. Tightened up the 4mm hex screws and got into the car to get a feel.
First thing, I immediately had to move the seat back. I didn't realize how much I had been compensating for the clutch pedal reach. After driving around for a bit, I ended up moving the seat a little farther back! All of a sudden, my legs were straighter and more comfortable. I was no longer pushing my left thigh against the cup holder and my right leg wasn't overly bent and cramped! And since the seat is now farther back, it is much easier to get in and out of the car. So glad I ordered this part. It really has improved my entire driving experience.
Took a chance on this item and am completely satisfied with it. Even though I'm 6' 2", I never felt I was getting full travel on the clutch without extending my toes forward. This little ditty solved that problem. 5 or 10 miles down the road and it feels like it's always been there.
I order this based on a posting in the Miata.net forum. I ordered the part on a Thursday, and it arrived in my mailbox the following Monday.
The clutch extension is very well made and well packaged. There were no installation instructions, but the installation is pretty obvious. It took longer for me to find the right Allen key in the garage than it took to install the extension.
The extension DID work with my I.L. Motorsports pedal kit. I heated the clutch pedal rubber cover in hot water, and then sprayed it with Boeshield T-9, and it slipped right on to the extension.
I am 5'11", but i have short (30" inseam) legs. The extension allowed me to move the seat back two "clicks", which made for a more comfortable driving position.
I would recommend this accessory to any NC driver with short legs.
I so glad this modification caught my eye, as it is one of the most useful and utilitarian mods I have added. Does exactly what it is designed to do without fanfare. Driver position feels much more natural and comfortable with the clutch pedal extension- whether rowing through the gears in the winding hills, or taking a long drive. (Heating up the rubber pad in hot water, along with dish soap enabled installation to go much smoother).
That pedal extension really helps as it was difficult to push the clutch all the way down before. Even though I am 6ft tall, my left leg had to be fully extended which was uncomfortable. All is well now.
Installing the rubber pad onto the extension was a challenge which I solved the following way:
1. Remove rubber pad from pedal
2. Install said rubber pad onto the 2 piece extension (on a bench for example)
3. Spread the two parts of the extension and wiggle the assembly onto the clutch pedal
4. Squeeze the two parts of the extension with pliers
5. Use the 4 mm Allen screws to tighten in place
6. Enjoy your Miata
This is a great mod to improve the drivability of the NC Miata. If you're short this lets you get out from underneath the dash and drive it like a normal car, and if you're tall this lets you move the seat back for more space and getting in and out.
It's pretty expensive for what it is and the rubber pedal grip is hard to get over the edges on the extension, but over all I'd buy this again in a heartbeat because of how much better it makes the clutch feel.
Got this as a Christmas Gift from my SO, I just finished putting it on and WOW!!! Its insane how much of a difference this little guy makes. It completely changed my seating position for the better. Makes it 10x easier to get in and out of the car now since I can sit farther back while still fully depressing the clutch. Definitely recommend this pedal extension if you are finding the cockpit a bit cramped!!!
I installed the clutch pedal extension, the rubber cover was a pain to put on. I am 70 years old, 6ft 2in tall and weigh 248 pounds, and had to put the seat 2 notches forward to put the pedal to the floor, this extension allows me to have the seat all the way back making exiting the Miata less difficult.
Sometimes you just don't know what you're missing until you have it. I was not looking for this item. I just happened to be surfing the NC mods and came across it. At first I thought is was a solution to a problem I didn't have, but then I started thinking about how cramped my right leg and arms were because of my seating position mandated by the clutch travel. I'm 5'10". I dislocated my right knee about 30 years ago and it bothers me at times when bent or in an odd position. Long trips in the NC would often take it's toll. Purchased this extension, and installed (Very Easy installation!) and immediately felt more comfortable behind the wheel. I think my driving control has improved as well. Don't think about this item making the clutch pedal closer, but rather providing more right leg room and arm position.
Great quality and shipped quickly. I bought a similar Ford Mustang product for my previous NC because these were not available at the time and this is much better quality. This pedal extension fits perfectly. I would recommend this to any NC owner.
