The long awaited low profile seat mount for the ND Miata / Fiat 124 is here! Made by our friends at Aurora Auto Design - the "street" branch of Blackbird Fabworx.
Lowers your driver's side factory seat for additional headroom. Fits both standard and Recaro seats.
Fully adjustable and retains ALL factory functions!
Price is for ONE bracket. This is for the LEFT (driver) side only, for Left Hand Drive cars only. Most folks are concerned about driver head room for track requirements and safety purposes, so we only stock the driver's side bracket. If you want one for the passenger side of your car, contact us and we can look into availability on the right side bracket for you.
The Aurora Auto Design low profile seat mount drops the factory seat about 1.125", offering a significant increase in head room - tall drivers, you're welcome!
As an added bonus, Aurora has done the impossible and matched Mazda in their own game of "Gram Strategy", making the seat base the same weight as the factory base it replaces.
Installation requires cutting a piece of the factory base and thus not fully reversible by bolting the factory pieces back on. However, the cut part can be replaced to bring the seat back to stock if desired.
Brian's Application Pics and Notes: We lowered only the Driver's seat in our Fiat 124, notice in this picture the comparison between our Ryan Passey sitting in the lowered stock driver's seat versus sitting on passenger side (and understand this upgraded Blackbird bar is a lot taller than the plastic covered stock hoops).
Ryan is about even 6 foot, whereas I am 6'2 and that means the visors block part of my vision in the stock seat at stock height even when the visors are in full up position. Video below is my first autocross with the newly LOWERED seat, I can see better and my weight is lower in the car, I like it!

This makes a bigger impact than most would imagine. I am 6ft tall and sitting in the Miata I could not get the rearview mirror to angle correctly to look behind the car. I would instead be looking down into the road just behind the car. The steering wheel didn't sit right and the armrests were unusable. About 1.5 inches lower and I rest correctly on the armrests and I stopped hitting the dial in the middle because the angle into the stick is higher. I am seated down into the car better and look more straightforward instead of down angle. The rearview mirror looks behind the car now. There are a lot of subtle differences.
Now the product itself. It is not a simple job. You will need an angle grinder with a spinning metal cutting disk and an anti-fire mat. This install requires some metal cutting and shaving adjustments. The rest of the job isn't hard except the handle removal for the seatback adjuster. The instructions say just pull it off. 3 men couldn't do it. Big boys. We ended up cutting a small notch below where it sits so we could just remove the assembly. When you get to that point you will remember this comment.
Other than that it's pretty straightforward. Get some extra zipties and go to town. If you are not comfortable using an angle grinder this might not be for you.
