DESCRIPTION

This MX5 Miata Muffler was designed for both RACING... and STREET.

This muffler features a 6" diameter canister and comes in at an ultra light 12 lbs, making it a perfect fit for SCCA's new Club Spec race series.

Why a single exit muffler? Let's face facts, dual exhausts on a straight four cylinder Miata is a ridiculous waste of weight for the serious sports car enthusiast (Mazda talks about gram strategy in the development of this MX5 but they wasted a lot of weight on duals that provide no performance benefit over singles YET lots of extra weight).

Just 12 pounds means this MX5 miata muffler is 15 pounds less than the stock MX5 miata muffler! How do we do it? For this design we started with our 7 pound Race and added more diameter filled with sound suppression materials and we separated the sound suppression chamber into THREE internally baffled chambers for sound wave attenuation in what is still a highflow design. By using a higher than normal perforation rate on the super high density core, WITH three internally baffled sections, we get absolutely minimal weight and sound for a 12 pound single.

Our original RoadsterSport "RACE" Miata Muffler with smaller 4" canister is an amazing 7 pounds and designed for the autocross and track MX5 Miata drivers who need to meet sound limits in the low 90 DB range with absolute minimal weight. That muffler has also been a big seller with our younger MX5 owners seeking to make a statement and have some fun with their street use. However, many asked us to make another single more focused for the street users... a fun single Miata Muffler that is more subtle than our 7 pound Race wonder... but almost as light. That turned into a tough challenge and after many prototypes you see the production version here.

This 12 pound Miata exhaust compares with 19 pounds for our RoadsterSport II Duals and over 26 pounds for the factory exhaust. Designed to accept our glass packed baffle insert to quiet it down more if you like, which is sold separately. SHIPPING NOTE...ships factory direct to you. Final is All POLISHED stainless steel construction and LIFETIME warranty. Uses stock hangers and connects to either our midpipe or the stock midpipe. Includes mounting gasket and hardware.

BRIAN'S APPLICATION NOTES: Rather mild when cruising on otherwise stock NC, delivering a classic sports car bark when you stick your foot in it...tons of fun, better performance, and much lower weight. Nonetheless, even this big STREET single is not for the faint of heart. The most common question we get on this one is: "will it be too loud" and we cannot answer that one for you because the "right" sound level is a matter of entirely subjective personal preference. However, if our RoadsterSport Q is 10 to 15% more sound than stock (depending on use of removable baffles), and our RoadsterSport II is 15 to 25% more sound than stock, this STREET SINGLE is 30 to 45% more sound than stock on otherwise stock NC (substantially less than our RACE Single which is a full 50 to 55% more sound than stock).

This STREET SINGLE is also a great RACE TRACK and Autocross choice for those running beyond stock class with performance headers or superchargers and needing more sound suppression in a single than our 7 pound Race (but daily driven STREET drivers with headers and superchargers will likely want the RoadsterSport Q instead!). Popular with manual transmission soft top owners, not recommended for those with automatics or PRHT. Yes, this takes the same OPTIONAL Packed Baffle

OCTOBER 2012 Update: New Tip Design! Had many requests for a new thicker rolled tip for our Street Single. Yes, still works with our unique removeable baffles.

INSTALL NOTES

Read full installation hints and notes in our forum Installation Instruction Section! --- CLICK HERE TO READ MORE. The secret is LUBE your hangers well with dishsoap so you can get flanges aligned properly, and torque the supplied hardware to NO MORE THAN 25-30 ft/lbs (using more torque will actually result in LESS seal because you will pucker the flange out at the middle).

RoadsterSport STREET SINGLE MX5 Miata Muffler, Just 12 pounds!

Ha ha, that's properly loud. I gifted my NC2 a used, Goodwin Racing Street Single. With the PRHT it drove me nuts at times, and yes, you warned me up there. On my way to work, It was fine, but on my way back I avoided the 2700 to 3000 rpm range. It was like a trombone on heavy throttle, and like a sound canon when you lifted. I like staying in gear until I get to a red light, and that was just too loud now. I had to get your exhaust baffle to quiet it down a little. The stock muffler hangs high up in the garage as a trophy, as I am never going back to stock.

The fit and finish are perfect, and there is so much more room down there now. I really love the sound with the baffle, but I wonder if I am restricting it too much. I'd say if anyone else is reading this: It sounds awesome! I know this is very subjective, but it is a proper sports car sound, to me.

Thanks Brian.

I have had the exhaust on the car now for about 3 weeks along with the baffle insert because I daily drive this car too and from work on the interstate and didn't want drone but wanted more sound. I have found this exhaust fits this car perfectly! In fact, I find myself wanting more noise yet still :) This muffler does a great job at bringing out the lower, almost burble notes of the car at low RPMs once it gets a little heat into it, and is just a blast at higher RPMs. To anyone interested in a "cheap" and easy way for more sound and lots more fun I would highly recommend this part!

Bought this a few months ago, and finally turned over 1500 miles since installation, so I can give a good review now.

My exhaust system consists of the Max Power header, the catted midpipe with a resonator, this muffler, and the extra baffle for the muffler.

Brian states a combo like I have is not for the faint of heart, and he is not wrong. You hear everything, some pops and crackles. There can be a little bit of droning with the system I have around 3k rpm. My first impression when I installed it and fired up the car was "holy crap! what have I done to my car ?!?" It can be really loud at first, but after a few months and the 1500 miles I can say (and my better half confirms this) it has quieted down to a very reasonable level. I expected this from reading some reviews and watching a couple channels on YouTube. So don't panic if it seems too noisy when you first put it on, it will turn down a little with some miles and time.

The sound level is a little quiet with the top up, but that is ok. Top down, it sounds terrific under heavy throttle, not even remotely 'ricer'. I drive the NC Miata in iRacing a lot, my real NC sounds exactly like my virtual one does in my headphones. Keep your foot out of it and it is quiet enough not to disturb your neighborhood or attract the cops.

It looks great, and the car looks somehow more 'purposeful' with the single exhaust. The finish of the part is excellent and it was quite easy to install. I recommend new hangers, they are cheap and make life easier.

I highly recommend ordering the baffle for any of the single exhausts too. Gives you an extra knob to turn and might save your day at a tightly sound controlled track or autox.

This GWR street single is the perfect exhaust for the Miata ! Now it sounds like a sports car! Better performance too!.

Perfect sound for me, not too loud not too quite with growling sound. Single tip design gives me extra room to work on rear wheel parts. I used wd40 and rivet plier type remover to remove stock exhaust rubber.

The old one fought coming out, so definitely get yourself a hanger removal tool. Worth it.

The muffler itself is good looking and well crafted. Its loudest at idle. A bit more than I hoped, but it should mellow. Otherwise, its noticeable and nice, but not overwhelming.

I am having a problem with exhaust leaking out of the flange. If there is a more malleable gasket that seals better I would use it.

Pulling the old muffler does leave a big empty space underneath, and you can bring home ice cream in the trunk now.

Bought a new Miata (to me) and as soon as I got home I ordered this. The stock muffler just left me disappointed with the new car as I had owned this muffler on a previous NC I had and knew that it was the perfect amount of noise for this car... not to loud, not to quiet (stock) and it saved some weight! Goodwin is always my go to spot for my miata upgrades! Extremely simple install and satisfaction was immediate upon startup!

Fit & finish couldn't be better, installation was easy & the loss of excess weight is always a plus. With the stock header & mid pipe, you can actually hear a car instead of a sewing machine. Sounds nice, not loud enough to get you pulled over or irritate your neighbors if you are out late, even with the baffle removed. I may have to order the header and mid pipe... Thank you GWR! Nice stuff, great service & your videos are well done & enlightening.

Recently purchased the car and it had the Roadster Sport Dual, which sounded nice. We wanted just a little more sound, and this single nailed it without being too loud. After being on the car for a few hundred miles it has gotten a little throatier, which is just about the perfect amount. Also, the quality is top notch! I'd purchase again.

I have already give the RSS a review but the one thing no one has stated is that after about 1500 miles the muffler brakes in it has a drop in tone. I'm using on 2.
5l PHRT with no complaints great sound on and off throttle.

Got this to round off the complete exhaust system from 1.8 header to mid pipe with converter on a 2.5 swap sounds really good. Just finished 1100 mile road trip and all works very well never got to be to much hard top up.

having grown up in the muscle car era and exhausts that actually produced some sound, I needed to do something about the non-existent exhaust sound of the MX-5. The Street Single peaked my interest as it provided a straight through design with a single outlet very similar to the classic designs of the 1960's British sports cars I use to own and the Cherry Bomb mufflers I use to love as a young adult. Of course, I read the review. Listened to the Youtube clips. And heard people say it's too loud for street use, especially on an automatic. Nonsense! This is the perfect muffler for the Miata. This should be the standard muffler or at least a factory option for the car. It gave the car the deep throaty sound it so desperately needs. For me it reminds me of the deep mellow tone of a 60's-something Austin-Healey 3000 or Jaguar XK-E. I use my Miata for my daily commute (40 miles each way) and most of that is on Interstate highway. In no way is it too loud or produces what many call a 'drone'. I love it. If you want something quieter than this baby, I'd suggest staying with the stock unit. I totally agree that there is no need for dual exhaust on this car with a single down pipe. unneeded weight. unneeded complexity.
