KONI Sport Shock with adjustable damping and height - Rear

DESCRIPTION

NEW for 2019 is Koni's widely popular Sport shock for 2016+ MX5 now both damping adjustable and height adjustable with three spring perch positions in front and four spring perch positions at the rear. These have been signature features of Koni adjustable sport shocks for the earlier Miatas and we worked with Koni to bring this feature now to the ND platform.

Perch 1: Raised height for cars with additional weight in the rear such as RF version, or customers not wanting any lowering with stock springs.
Perch 2: OE factory position perch. This is the SCCA legal CS perch.
Perch 3: lowers 20mm with factory springs for Club Model, lowers 30mm with factory springs for Base Model
Perch 4: lowers 30mm with factory springs for Club Model, not recommended for Base Model.

Included adjustment knob dials ride from SOFT to FIRM by just turning in the direction of arrows on the knob. That allows you to dial it soft for daily ride and firm for autocross and canyon and track fun, or any point in between for your ideal compromise of ride and handling.

INSTALL NOTE: Shock Rod is 12mm, stock bump-stop washer is 10mm, so you need to drill out the factory bump-stop washers slightly for install. Picture shows that clip ring has multiple positions, allowing lowering even with stock springs:

Damping adjustment tip: As with all Konis, the adjustment on the top of the shock to change from soft to firm is opposite from most other shock makers. With Konis, CLOCKWISE = Softer, and COUNTER-CLOCKWISE = Stiffer.
All Koni shocks ship set to the full-soft position. Shocks should not be driven/used when up "against the wall" of full-soft or full-hard. Therefore an important part during assembly is to turn the adjusters off of that full soft position, ensure smooth motion of the knob, and then set them to the position you desire. Note this is easier to do AFTER you have the shock and spring assembled as it can be difficult to hold the shock shaft in place and keep it from spinning with your hand before you have things assembled. If you want the shocks at full-soft, turn the knob all the way clockwise gently until you hit the wall, and then turn the knob counter-clockwise 1/8th turn or so that the shock is within its operating window. Similarly, if you want full stiff, turn the knob counter-clockwise until you find the wall at full stiff and then bring it back 1/8th turn or so. Never drive the car with the shock adjustment jammed against either end of the adjustment range.
