DESCRIPTION

Twin Tip version of our famous SuperQ.

Following the huge popularity of our NC application "Q" Muffler this Q for ND is once again "Q" for Quiet version. This attenuation design is a premium "NO-DRONE" choice, great for those who want a more throaty sound than stock but still mild. Smooth mandrel bent tubing redirects the flow for a side entrance to the muffler where we engineered a three chamber design. It would be much cheaper to just use a single big muffler with nothing but perforated pipe through the center surrounded by sound absorbing materials, but doing it right with the three chamber design allows us to tailor precisely the FUN sound you want when you push it toward redline, without the harsh drone on decel that the more simple designs make you suffer.

This triple attenuation chamber design muffler is the most mild twin tip of our choices and mellow on an otherwise stock MX5 Miata...about 20% louder than stock when on the gas...with a deep sporty burble anytime you hit the go pedal but nearly as quiet as stock when you just want to cruise.

This triple chamber design features an exclusive 'Helmholtz Resonator' first chamber that massively reduces the standing wave inside the exhaust system, reducing the 'booming' tendency by over 50db inside a top up Miata cabin that is common on many aftermarket Miata exhausts. To create this Helmholtz chamber we outfitted our 2016 ND Gen Miata with a computer and sound analyzer and microphones and drove it under varying conditions and loads and without the stock muffler for the computer to carefully measure the sound spectrum coming out the stock midpipe. We then use that data and some special software to calculate the particulars of the Helmholtz chamber size and valve specs to precisely knock down the frequencies we do not want to hear in the new Miata while allowing the good throaty burble fun sounds to pass through. The result is deep throaty fun, without the drone!

The Helmholtz chamber gives this muffler a dual personality, under decel it is super mild and quiet, yet when you push hard toward redline it gets more fun and racy! With the top down lots of fun throaty burble, but dramatically more tame when the top is up. 24 pounds. In brief, FUN when you want it, and yet totally mild when just cruising top up.

Yes, simple BOLT ON install, just two bolts!

INCLUDES our exclusive baffle cone insert in the Tips which is REMOVEABLE and allows you to set the sound to sporty...or quiet. Also available is our optional packed baffle with which you can quiet it down even more. This system is 10% to 15% louder than the stock Miata muffler on an otherwise stock MX5 Miata exhaust system....and only 20% over stock sound level when used with our RoadsterSport midpipe. Works great with stock midpipe or RoadsterSport Midpipe. Customers planning a header are encouraged to order special Header version of our SuperQ that adds additional resonator on inlet side to best cope with the raspy sounds unleashed by a header swap. Baffles retained by small hex bolt inserted from well under each tip.

Proudly made in the USA with a LIFETIME WARRANTY, emissions legal in all 50 states. Fits all 2016 and newer Miatas with manual or automatic transmission, soft top or retractable hardtop. This Miata exhaust is guaranteed for as long as you own your Miata.

BRIAN'S APPLICATION NOTES. MORE aggressive sound than our other SuperQ choices! Not just two tips on one pipe from the muffler, true twin exit from the muffler means a bit more sound than all single tip versions of SuperQ. And sound frequency balance is very different from each tip, the driver's side tip is essentially skipping final chamber in the muffler. That means you can have some fun mixing your own sound here using baffles in just one tip or the other. And, use of our exclusive baffles will have a big impact on sound reduction with this version, use of baffle in the driver's side tip will have the most reduction in sound level because that is the most direct route out. Result is many levels of sound, lots of control by the end user and ability to dial the result to your own preferences. My recommendation is remove the included baffles before install, my bet is that many never put them back because this muffler is quite mild on otherwise stock MX5.

BRIAN'S INSTALL NOTES:

IF you have more than 20,000 miles add a fresh donut gasket, our item 61-2144 (factory part number RFK2-40-581). The factory designed the joint between muffler and midpipe as BOTH a flex joint and a sealing point and the impregnated graphite 'donut' gasket slowly grinds itself thinner and thinner. Those under 20k miles usually find the original still works great, those over about 20k miles usually best to start with fresh donut.

Installation of this Miata exhaust is SUPER EASY...just two 14mm bolts to loosen! When you open the big box you will find separate foam wrap on the exhaust tip, leave that foam around the tip during your install to protect the polished tips and your car's soft plastic in the exhaust cutout. Use gloves. Note the 'bolts' from the factory are actually studs with springs and nuts and the factory usually jams the nuts on so hard that unbolting it will bring the stud out too. If that does not happen then use a 13mm long socket to pull the stud, or use jam nut technique where both nuts are put on one stud against each other and then wrench used on the inner of the two to back out the stud. Then lube up the stock exhaust hangers with dish soap and yank stock muffler back and forth to work the soap into the rubber hangers and then the muffler will slide off those rubber hangers easily. Then hang the new muffler on the wet and soapy rubber hangers and torque 'bolts' with the springs back in place to 30ft/lbs. Now you can remove foam tip wrap. Option to remove the baffle too, to do so loosen bolt that holds it from under the exhaust tip and use it as handle to shake the baffle loose and then unscrew bolt the rest of the way and pull the baffle (pulling baffle raises the sound slightly). If you don't pull the baffles, put a socket on the nuts and double check they are properly torqued before you drive (with lock washer just 15 ft/lbs is plenty, don't overdo it). Note the muffler to midpipe joint is a ball socket connection for the first time on a Miata, it is designed to move a lot, so please do not add sealants that will gum up that dry ball socket joint. Note that our flange at entrance to muffler is designed as a dual purpose item that allows going to flat gasket if you later go with our 2.5 inch midpipe, at which point the midpipe has a flex joint to replace function of the donut and you get a clean 2.5 inches of flow all the way, which is not possible if we stay same small pipe of stock muffler.

RoadsterSport "SUPER-Q" TWIN TIP Stainless Steel PREMIUM ADJUSTABLE Sound MX5 Miata Exhaust

As others have said, this is the muffler the car should have come with from factory. Sounds so much better than stock. Not too loud as to annoy the neighbors. Cabin noise if fine. Installed on my driveway without having to lift the car. Did have to take the old muffler to a local garage to have one bolt removed as it was locked in and I was afraid of damaging it with the tools I had on hand.

The irony of my review is that I'm not a "modder". I've had six Miatas since 1989, and three of those have been NDs. None have been modded... until now. I first became curious about axle-back exhausts in 2019, but found it hard to commit to one just based on the sound quality of any YouTube vid.

I hoped to find an exhaust that had more 'character' than stock, but without it being obnoxious to others, or bothersome to me and a passenger after a relaxing drive. The Legamax Premium was on my radar, as was the Goodwin SQTT.

My indecisiveness was resolved when a neighbor/friend (surprisingly) purchased an SQTT for his own 2024 Miata, and so finally I was able to hear/experience the SQTT firsthand. I got a very fun 20-min test ride, plus time outside his car to listen to the SQTT in various rev ranges.

Without exaggeration, I knew in the FIRST second of hearing the SQTT that I had to get one. His ND was transformed 'completely' by this exhaust - it was the missing piece. The SQTT makes rich, sultry, and full-bodied notes. ZERO DRONE! For me, it was such a relief to find out firsthand that the SQTT doesn't sound as (or look like) an aftermarket mod; you'd guess it was 100% OEM but with a MUCH more premium sound. For my taste (and with both baffles installed), the sound is PERFECT in volume and character. BTW, the fit/finish of the unit and tips are exceptional!

My final comments are about Goodwin Racing. I ordered on a Sunday afternoon when the business was closed, and my order was processed for shipping by 9 AM the following day. My shipment was two days in transit, with typical automated tracking. Unboxing the SQTT was a treat, because the packing materials also showed a great deal of ingenuity. Even the custom foam was wrapped in plastic to prevent messy disintegration during unwrapping!

All-in-all, a GREAT experience. It would be painful if I ever had to own another Miata without an SQTT. I've gone from the greatest skeptic, to the biggest fan. This exhaust resoundingly adds another dimension of pleasure to any/every daily outing. Not sure if it's okay to plug the muffler shop that installed my SQTT, but... it was WTB Muffler in Poway (north San Diego). The owner was blown away by the SQTT's build quality, and charged just $100 to do the swap.

If you're at all reluctant and indecisive (like I'd been), I hope my experience can help.

I had wanted to change out the stock muffler soon after I got the car. I was looking for something that would give the exhaust note a little more character without being obnoxious. After a lot of reading and listening to youtube videos I decided to pull the trigger on the SQTT. I was concerned that it might be too loud for long road trips so I ordered the additional glass packed baffles before I even installed the SQTT. I didn't need them. I'm driving it with the supplied baffles removed!

I bought a set of ramps to lift the back of the car. I had no trouble removing the two bolts on the stock muffler, I had sprayed the stud ends with PB Blaster the night before the install. A little Dawn dish soap on the rubber hangers and an exhaust hanger tool made removal easy. The whole process took me about an hour and if I had to do it again I could do it in half that time.

It is a high quality product that gave me exactly the sound I was looking for. As several others have said this is what it should have sounded like stock.

Thanks Good-Win for making such a great product!

Just received this yesterday and installed this morning. I grabbed some exhaust hanger plyers just to make life easier and happy to say it took only 30 minutes to install this morning. Sounds nice with the baffles on my 20244 RF but opted for removing the baffles as it sound just right! Fit and finish is excellent and looks 10x better than stock.

I didn't want anything too loud and happy to say at idle, all the way up to redline, it sounds perfect!

Nice job Goodwin...keep up the great work!

Wow! Exactly what I was looking for, a little louder than stock with a nice rumble. Definitely can hear the exhaust sound with both top up (RF) or down. Definitely adds to the fun of driving this amazing sports car. Build quality is excellent; easily installed in about an hour with no lift. Delivery was fast. Very pleased with this purchase.

All reviews are super subjective, so a bit of data on me. I'm in my early 50s. I'm not a big performance or mod guy. I've NEVER done anythinbg custom to a car. But I love cars, and the Miata stock exhaust is just inexplicably poor. I once drove a 2004 Volkswagen R32 with the vacuum line removed so the delicious exhaust note was constant. My wife hated me for that. (woke her up every morning) I loved it. (not the wife part) Drove with a custom radio turned off nearly always so I could listen to it.

I agonized over this for a long time. Do I do it at all? Do I do the Q or this one? etc. Brian's comments and my conversation with him scared me more than a little. Made me feel like this one was going to be way over my head. But I didn't want to wind up in a situation like I did with the R32 originally where the lower RPMs were quiet (or anything like it). I wanted a full experience, all the time. So I did it.

I ALMOST sent it back... wife was concerned. (supportive, but concerned... she didn't want to go back to being woken up a lot, and she doesn't sleep easily...) It was REALLY hard. Finally I realized it would cost me a restocking fee and shipping (though the guys were reasonable about it), and I decided I might as well try it and resell it here locally at a loss if it was going to make my wife's life hell.

So, I did it. I literally giggled when I started the car.

It's maybe a TOUCH louder than I want it to be SOMETIMES. I have it on full bass. The initial start is a bit of a VROOM that makes me cringe a little. Sometimes that warmup phase for the car can be a bit much. Lower RPMs when you're off the throttle can be a little much. But, other than that, it's basically perfect. It's what the original exhaust should have been.

So far the wife hasn't commented much either way, but she also hasn't appeared concerned. I think it's genuinely not as bad as my R32 (granted, I'm also not being a toolbag and popping the throttle pulling out of the garage or ripping off down the road in the neighborhood like I used to). The kids (adult in their 20s) say that it sounds great but it's not super loud at all. Just a bit.

Still only on my first month with it, but so far I think we have a win.

Only had the car a month but knew the stock sound didn't really seem to match the car.
Love my Super "Q"!
Ended up takin both baffles out and am very happy with the exhaust note, both on low and especially high revs.
NOW the car sounds like it looks.
Thanks!

I'm running this exhaust since one month now and i'm really satisfied with the sound it produce. The product quality is impressive and it was really easy to install. Took me about 15 minutes when the car was lifted . First thing i did before the first start, is to remove the 2 baffles. 10/10 , i recommend to anyone !

Delivery: Arrived at my house in about a week

Product Finish: Beautiful - finish is nice and shiny compared to the stock twin tip

Installation: Quick and easy if you have the right tools - took about 30 min to get my tools and work area ready (including jacking up the car) and about 30 min to get the stock exhaust off and new one on. Highly recommend using a pair of exhaust hanger pliers and dish detergent to lubricate the hangers.

Sound: Sounds true to many of the videos found on YouTube. Without any baffles, the SQTT makes the exhaust sound full and deep without being obnoxious, with the added benefit of 1) not upsetting neighbours or police and 2) minimal to no drone at cruising speeds. Stock engine sounds great, but when paired with this exhaust, it gives you audio feedback from all angles and makes the driving experience even more engaging and immersive (even if it's just a trip to the grocery store).

This is what an MX5 should sound like and I'm definitely enjoying driving my ND2 more. I was thinking of purchasing the Superstreet but since the Super Q allows for the header and midpipe upgrade, might as well. Installation is a breeze but please, if this is your first time installing or you're a beginner (like me), wear work gloves.

Delivery to my consolidator in Delaware was fast and communication with the reps went quite well considering I live on the other side of the world. Thank you!

Really quiet with the baffles installed. While it's a nice option to have, I took the baffles out and that really made the car come alive!

Did a lot of research including observing hours of YouTube videos. When all said and done I went the safer route on sound volume with the QT. At 76 years old I'm mostly beyond the point of potentially disrupting the peace loud and really wanted something that made the car sound like the great sports car it is but not in an aggressive manner. I've had many cars and motorcycles that were pretty aggressive and I wanted to stay away from that. Goodwin has a a thousand less expensive options that I liked as sound of as it was a little louder but got the QT due to multiple comments from good reviewers that it made the Miata "sound like it should from factory". It does that, although I doubt it would pass factory tests as an OEM exhaust.

I didn't use the optional baffles accompanying the muffler as the sound without was just what I was looking for.

Delivery was extremely fast, process of ordering great and excellent communication from Goodwin throughout. Zero issues throughout and I'm picky. It is extremely well made, excellent top quality materials and installation is as depicted in videos. Very simple process (my car only had 5,000 miles on it), with the only possible issue being you do have to work a bit getting the hangers off (use soap per YouTube video..that really makes it pretty easy). With access to an overhead lift and good tools this should take under 1/2 hour.

It sounds great without being LOUD. if you want loud, this is not your pick. As my wife is a driver of this car and wasn't keen on changing exhaust at almost a thousand dollars, I wanted her to like it as well.. she does and it enhanced her enjoyment driving the car.

Looks great as well with the heavy duty stainless tips.

I just installed my Super-Q Twin Tip and I couldn't be any happier!! This is exactly what my Miata was missing. I previously had an 2002 NB special edition for 12 years and even though it had the stock muffler, it sounded good. My 2023 ND didn't sound as good as my old NB, but this changed all that. I'm still experimenting with the baffles and took the Good-Win advice of removing both baffles as a starting point. I currently have the left baffle in. I haven't tried both baffles yet, but I will. Having the ability to customize the sound is amazing. It's quick and easy too! Thank you 😊

Delivery:
Arrived at my house about 3-4 days after I ordered.

Fit & Finish:
Excellent- appears to be quality construction, good welds, etc. The twin tips actually look a bit nicer that the stock ones.

Installation:
Incredibly easy, maybe 40 minutes by myself and about 15 minutes of that was me getting the car on my ramps and blocking the wheels, etc. I could have easily installed this without lifting the rear of the car but lifted it up anyway.
The day before install I did squirt some PB Blaster on the 2 studs, and some WD-40 into each of the hanger holes. Both studs came out easily, and using a pair of hanger pliers, the hangers came off relatively easily. I only had about 6k miles on the car at the time of my install, so the stock exhaust gasket was retained. Didn't need to, but I did use my floor jack to lower the stock unit out and raise up the SQTT.
Attached the hangers, put just a dab of red loctite on the studs and torqued to 30 ft/lbs. Checked for leaks once started just using my hands to feel around the mid pipe/muffler joint.

Sound
My goal was to get a mellow sound better that stock, but not anything that was annoying. After several hundred miles and experimenting with different baffle combinations, I've settled on 1 baffle, drivers side. The sound is exactly what I was trying to achieve. The muffler does mellow after a few hundred miles, and the ability to mix the baffle combos let me get to exactly where I wanted to be. This is how this car should sound coming out of the factory.

Overall impression:
Love this set up! Easy to install, can "tune" the sound, and spouse approved.

Love it! This is the muffler that should come stock on the Miata. Stops the droning from the trunk. Sends the sound out the back where it should be. Sounds just right, just enough, not too much. Baffles out!

Thank you for a beautifully crafted Roadster Sport Super Q exhaust muffler. I received it today and immediately installed it. I had previously lubricated the studs and the hangers and everything came apart easily. I had a helper and we had the OEM muffler out and the Roadster Sport on in less than 30 minutes. The sound is perfect with the baffles out, but I'll likely try it with the bafflers in as well. I know it's probably my imagination, but the seat of my pants is telling me that the accelerator response is sharper and the car pulls stronger. Now I'm 81 and no drag racer, but in normal every day driving the car feels better. Like maybe it gained 5-10 HP.

I was looking for aN axelback muffle to make my 2023 MX-5 RF sound better than stock, but not to loud that can bother me when I drive it on the highway. I researched several brand and models, watched tons of videos and reviews. I finally decided to go for the RoadsterSport "SUPER-Q" TWIN TIP. Installation was super easy and took me less than 1 hour. I tested first with the baffles inserted and nopE! it was to quiet. Then I removed both baffles and boom! Found the perfect sound to me! Almost imperceptible at cruising speeds on highways (70-80mph), but the perfect tone and volume over 4000 rpm. The stainless steel twin tips look amazing and preserve the stock look and feel. Super happy with the product.

Actually....a bit quieter than I expected with no baffles. It does improve the sound greatly and. for me, helps with shifting. Another benefit, and I may be delusional, is that I seem to have less of a problem starting from a stop on a hill. It seems to rev a bit more quickly from idle. I may be wrong, but I did notice this. The drive by wire was making me a bit crazy. I should have gotten the super street, perhaps. The wife approves and I have a better sound that informs my shifting better. I also Just got this car a month ago and am really enjoying it.

SO: quieter than expected. Improved sound overall. Better off idle revving. AND I did delete the sound tube, so the Super Q is a great substitute. it's all good.

Thought (accurately) that the stock exhaust on my 2021 ND RF was, in a word, lame. The stock exhaust was soulless and boring. I looked around for a reasonable alternative that would bring my baby to life while also not pissing off my neighbor folk. This exhaust, as described, sounded like the answer. The exhaust arrived today and it was like Christmas morning, I couldn't wait to dig into my history of working on cars and hang this new unit. It was the easiest thing I think I have ever done on a car and a good thing since I have been away from wrenching for a bit. It took me around an hour to install with a few bumps and scrapes along the way (as expected). I started my Mazda up and she was a completely different animal, throaty and fun when you want and pretty much the same a stock at idle. I have not had my wife out in the car yet for competitive comparison to other reviews - but I am convinced she will be pleased that it doesn't loosen her molars.
Win- Win
Thanks Goodwin racing. Great product !!!

Shipped quickly and the packaging was VERY protective. Pulling the staples from the box almost took as long as installing the exhaust. I used the opened box as a mat under the car instead of using my creeper. I put the car on ramps, while not absolutely necessary, made things much more roomy.

I put penetrating oil on the muffler side of the studs, but still had one stick. Your luck may be better. A pair of vice grips made short work of it. I used a little WD-40 on the hanger and used an $18 set of hanger pliers to remove the hangers. The pliers make the removal of the rubber hangers trivial.

After installation I removed the two baffles, started it up and checked for leaks. All was ok. I liked the deep mellow sound and fortunately so did my wife. Highly recommended if you have a spouse who doesn't want to be embarrassed by you waking up the neighbors.

Awesome workmanship. Awesome adjustable sound, perfect for mature owners who just want a lil extra something from the exhaust. Highly recommend the Mazda sound tube delete to make the sounds out of your new Miata a bit more predictable and what you would you would expect from a new vehicle as well as cleaning up the engine bay a bit. Ended up putting the baffles back in mine to bring the noise level down a bit and is exactly what I was looking for. Once my drivetrain warranty is up I'll probably come back and do the midpipe, headers and tune but currently very happy with my warrantied car. Installation was a breeze using a small shop tool to support the old/new mufflers while fighting the exhaust hangers and flange bolts.
