DESCRIPTION

The RoadsterSport PPF brace is designed to reduce slop in the transmission by bracing the PPF against the rear subframe. This brace also improves traction by reducing wheel hop, a must for boosted applications. These braces are made in the USA from ultra light honeycomb aluminum for maximum strength and powder coated to last a lifetime.

Brian's Application Notes: Great mod for race cars, not for street cars in our experience. Note that you will pick up more gear whine because this item works by taking away much of the isolation effects of the bushings on the factory power plant frame. Thus, we suggest race cars only for this mod.

Does NOT fit with the Helmholtz midpipe.
Not compatible with our 6 piece underbody brace kit, as the mounting points occupy the same space on the rear subframe.

RoadsterSport PPF Brace

Ordered the PPF rear brace and the Cobalt engine brace at the same time and installed both of them on a Saturday.

For me, the PPF brace was super easy to install. My car only has 20k miles and has never been in an accident. So, the corners are factory square.

I chocked the front wheels, then put the rear wheels on jack stands, removed the factory bolts and braces, then installed the PPF supports.

A light knock with a rubber mallet and the bar popped right into place.

I have a Tomei 2-way diff and the PPF brace really helps the rear end remain predictable when the back end breaks loose from the torque of my 2.5 turbo.

Great product and super happy with the results!

This piece is an amazing addition to the car. Drivetrain movement is reduced, shifts feel more precise, and the rear feels tighter and more composed in all situations. It is well worth the investment for sheer driving pleasure. It feels like the piece that should have been in place from the factory and was simply forgotten.

I noticed almost no increase in NVH as mentioned by some. A tiny tiny bit with the top up. A note on installation- install end mounts first, thread the cross member onto the ppf bolts, then work the ends into place and send the bolts through prior to tightening anything. You will need all the play you can get. I thought it was never going to line up at first, but it wound up going in perfectly like all Goodwin parts!

In an effort to make my baby girl a better driving machine, I opted to look into under chassis bracing. While searching, I came upon the RoadsterSport PPF brace. I read about it; did my research on it and decided it would be a great addition and improvement to my driving experience. I compared it to other braces with the same function but they didn't seem to compare to the RS PPF brace (maybe beatrush). I took the dive and gave this brace a chance. Honestly, I can say that the ride quality and driveability of my baby girl has improved vastly . Acceleration is on point; tires feel planted and ready to go on a dime. Braking is precise; my baby girl brakes almost instantly as a unit. Turning is phenomenal, feels swift and effortless. The cornering is heck of fun - going 40 plus miles an hour and staying planted without the flex that it used to have. This brace is a great addition and a must for any Mx 5.

I installed the brace two weeks ago. In that time, I haven't put the top up once. I haven't noticed any increase in offensive gear noise which is the one thing even Brian cautioned could be a problem. Maybe it'll be more noticeable with the top up, but I rarely drive the car that way for long! The installation was straightforward, but I did have one bolt that was a bit difficult getting started with the brace in place. The kit didn't include any instructions, which is the one suggestion I'd make for improvement. I didn't have any torque spec's, which I would have followed if they had been provided. As for the driving experience, I haven't notice any differences on the street, even with some aggressive off-ramp carving. But I bought this brace to hold the transmission in place during track driving (DE's), so I won't be able to report back on that until I get back out next season. For the price, it's kind of a no-brainer even if it only makes a 25% improvement. Without the brace on the track, I feel like the gearbox is moving around slightly when going into corners, resulting in an occasional missed shift. I bought this brace just to minimize the chance of that occurring. I'll report back next year how well it works. I suppose it could also be the engine mounts that are allowing the transmission movement, but the car only has 25K miles on it so I'd hope they still have a good amount of life left in them.
