DESCRIPTION

Great new product from our friends at Blackbird Fabworx! This fire extinguisher kit is cheap insurance for your car - it could be the difference between stopping a bad situation before it gets worse or watching your car burn while you wait for emergency crews to reach you. But mounting one can be tricky. The Blackbird Fabworx bracket secures any standard 2.5 lb fire extinguisher in the area just ahead of the seat which is essentially unused space in the car and within arms reach when you need it.

You can get just the bracket from us and mount any standard fire extinguisher, or get a high quality Halotron or Halon 2.5lb fire extinguisher from us as well. Just select your preference in the drop down options.

Fire extinguisher kit for the ND Miata includes:

* Well-designed bracket that can be mounted on the driver's side using factory seat bolt locations
* All hardware and quick-release latches
* Multiple mounting holes so you can choose extinguisher position based on your seat position

* OPTIONAL 2.5 Lbs. Halotron or Halon Fire extinguisher

HALOTRON vs. HALON

Halon 1211 is a pressurized liquid that is a non-conductive, oxygen robbing agent that leaves no residue as it turns to a gas at normal atmospheric pressure. Halon is the gold standard in fire suppression and it's the same stuff required by the FAA on all commercial airlines.
Halotron is a synthetic alternative to Halon. Like Halon, it will not leave a residue. It is a great budget alternative to Halon, but is only about half as effective at putting out a fire as Halon; hence the "2 B:C" rating vs. Halon's "5 B:C" rating. That said, Halotron is still a very effective option and far better than nothing. We put out the engine fire on our Budget NC at Willow Springs Raceway with a 2.5lb Halotron bottle.

Bottom line, if you walk the pits at a race track and peek into cars to see who is using what, the majority will be Halotron due to the price, and most folks reason that it's "good enough". Halotron certainly puts out a lot of fires every year. But, keep in mind that you're the first responder to your fire and first you have to get the car stopped safely. A 2.5lb bottle isn't huge - if you can get the car stopped and get on the fire quickly before it grows and get that spray directed right at the source, the Halotron will likely take care of it. But that bottle will be empty in a matter of seconds, and if the fire's grown in the time it took to get stopped and get on it, that may not be enough. If you want the option with the most fire extinguishing capability packed into that 2.5lb bottle, get the Halon.

Blackbird Fabworx Fire Extinguisher kit for ND/Fiat 124

The "Blackbird Fabworx Halotron Fire Extinguisher kit" is very well made. All the appropriate hardware is included. I would suggest purchasing and brand new E12 External TORX® from Harbor Freight to remove the (2) external TORX® bolts that bolt the front of the seat to the frame. These will need to be removed and replaced to attach the Fire Extinguisher bracket to the seat frame. I know what you are thinking and I thought the same thing. I originally purchased and American Made E12 and I almost stripped the bolt head off. So, I took a chance and went to may local Harbor Freight and it worked like a charm. No issues. You will need a breaker bar to break these bolts loose. They are really on there, as well they should be. My only complaint is there are no torque spec's because there are no instructions included.

I had my bracket powder coated red to match some other things I am doing with the ND2. I you register on the Goodwin site you can get access to the "Spotlight" where you can show off your ride. Mine is the Ceramic White 2019 ND2 with twin blue stripes. I will have a photo of this bracket up-loaded so you can check it out. Looks fantastic.
