MORE: ...crankshaft harmonics at 7,000 rpm, and valves made friends with pistons. Engine went out to Esslinger Engineering in Chino, California to be built into 2.4L 220-230 crank hp screamer! 2.3L forged ford ecoboost crankshaft, keyed along with the timing gear and NC Crankpulley, Esslinger's custom "Longrod and piston" kit with 10.5:1 compression ratio and a set of their stage 4 cams with valvesprings to match. While the engine was being built, I redesigned and fabricated my previous oil cooler setup. Mounting a 19-row Setrab series 6 cooler parallel to the radiator where the powersteering cooler used to be mounted. Powersteering was deleted to simplify and shave some weight both off the engine's accessory drive, AC was retained because street car. The radiator was then sealed to the LRB speed aluminum undertray to improve cooling efficiency through the CSF dual pass radiator, along with trimming a section the sheet metal between the radiator and the bumper crash beam. This freed up what felt like maybe 20-30% of the radiator surface area to more direct airflow with a custom duct I fabricated for a smooth transition from the bottom of the crash and sealed to the top surface of the radiator. Paired with the previously done battery relocation to the trunk, AEM cold air intake, Porsche 997 GT3 "Nose vent" in the hood, and now the removal of the powersteering reservoir, air was free to flow from the the grill of the car through the rad and be extracted out by the hood vent with minimal impedance short of a full duct from hood to radiator. After reinstallation and reflashing the basemap from the tuner, the car ran smoothly. At this point, I'm currently shaking the car down (to get used to the car and it's new powerband, and prove it's reliability to my nervous subconscious). With 2 autocross events, 6 thousand miles of canyon driving, and paranoid inspection of the oil coming out of the engine and the pleats of the used oil filter, I can say my confidence is coming back to what it used to be when the car was stock and when I was blissfully ignorant of any problems awaiting me.
